Víctor holds a bachelor degree in Physics from the University of Valladolid, after which, he gained some teaching experience before moving to the United Kingdom where he was awarded a MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering by the University of Dundee, place where he focused his career on research, first as a master student at the IMSaT (Institute for Medical Science & Technology) and then as a research assistant at the School of Engineering and Physics and Mathematics.

Recently, he joined the electrochemistry and smart materials and devices research group of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, where under the supervision of the Dr Toribio Fernandez Otero and owing to the financial support of the Marie-Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network MICACT - Microactuators is carrying out the PhD project “Propioceptive Artificial Muscles” whose main goals are the development of

  • Bending and linear actuators sensing: temperature, chemical ambient and mechanical working conditions using conducting polymers exchanging anions or cations during actuation being able to self-sense the presence obstacles in its way, giving information about its possibilities to shift it or not; covering the old dream of engineers and robot designers: available haptic motors.
  • The theoretical model for artificial proprioception based on mechanical, polymeric and electrochemical principles, leading to the development of more intelligent robots and tools and its characterization procedures.
